The Henry Edmison Duckworth collection, ca. 1935-1996. --

Donated by Dr. Duckworth in 1992 & 1996. Processed by John Richthammer in 1996. -- Dr. Duckworth earned his B.A. from the University of Manitoba in 1935, his B.Sc. in 1936, and his Ph.D. in 1942 from the University of Chicago. He became one of the world's leading physicists and is internationally renowned for his work on mass spectroscopy. He first lectured at United College which became the University of Winnipeg, was research scientist for the National Research Council, and Professor and Head of the UM Physics Department. He also taught and researched at McMaster University, Universite Laval, and Wesleyan University. -- He was Vice-President at the University of Manitoba and served as the University's 10th Chancellor from 1986-1992. During 1971-1981 he was President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Winnipeg. -- The collection contains biographical papers, speeches, files related to Dr. Duckworth's UM and UW presidential activities, research papers and lectures, and documents related to a variety of affiliations with research groups in physics. -- For three photos separated from the collection see PC 121.
